Travel Guide: Ocean Shores, Washington

Happy Thursday everyone! My mama, pups, and I went on a little weekend getaway to Ocean Shores this past weekend and it was really relaxing and so much fun watching the pups get incredibly excited over the beach. It was his very first time at a beach and he was IN LOVE. He could totally be a beach dog. He refused to leave the car when we got home, because he wanted to go back to the beach (haha!). Anyways, we explored a little and learned a lot about food areas there that are a MUST to share with anyone who decides to plan a trip there.

Stay: When planning this trip, we decided to go through Airbnb, since my last experience was so great! We wanted to take the dog too, so we used their super easy to use website to find the perfect place. We ended up staying in this cute little Chalet A-Frame (Click HERE to see it) right in town. It was super clean, which surprised me a bit considering it’s pet friendly, and it was about a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. However, if you stay here, please note that the walk to the beach is through the backside of the neighboring hotel and on a trail in long grass. Also, the main road is about 30 yards outside of the chalet, but it didn’t bother us too much. Overall, it was the perfect place to stay.

Dining: Going into this trip, we had decided that we would be bringing our own lunches and one of our dinner meals. Good thing we did… We were planning on ordering pizza from one of the local pizza places, but they had very questionable ratings. I decided to ask the receptionist of the place we were staying at about a particular pizza place and she told us that anywhere you go in Ocean Shores will either be way overpriced or absolutely disgusting and to not risk it. The best thing to do is to stop in Aberdeen on the way in for food. She recommended us to just go to their grocery store and pick up some food, which is exactly what we ended up doing. So if you go to Ocean Shores, DON’T EAT THERE!!!

However, there were two good places we did try. Ocean Beach Roasters and Bistro was a fantastic coffee house that we got breakfast from every day. Their coffee was pretty good too. I definitely recommend stopping in there if you’re in the area.

Another place was tried was Murphy’s Candy and Ice Cream! Murphy’s had, by far, the best tasting ice cream I have ever had. All of their ice cream is homemade and they have tons of flavors. Totally worth every bite.

Things To Do: We struggled a lot with this… Honestly, there isn’t very much to do in Ocean Shores. There were some shops and a bowling alley, but other than the beach, there really isn’t anything. There is a trail about 10 minutes out called the Weatherwax Trail that is kind of fun, but quite short. The trail itself is very pretty. If you plan to go to Ocean Shores, plan to just relax or be ready to take a trip out to surrounding areas for things to do.

Overall, we had a good time. The weather wasn’t that great besides the day we got there, and it was quite cold. However, watching my pup have the time of his life made it totally worth every minute. If you plan to go to Ocean Shores, I hope you have a wonderful time and make a ton of great memories! Oh! I forgot to mention, watch out for deer. They’re everywhere.

  1. I feel like the food part of this post is super untrue! I’ve grown up going to ocean shores on vacation and they have some amazing food places!! Some can be “pricey” but that’s EVERYWHERE! The local place that has been there for forever (dugans) is the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life! And everyone else I know that’s tried it agrees. Alex by the sea is also a delicious restaurant and great for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries or whatever 🙂

I’m not posting this comment to be disrespectful but I’d hate for people to travel to this amazing little town and miss out on something they could love! It’s also how some people in that little town make a living & survive 💙
